The Crafty Network

This enterprising group of crafters have set up this great new Facebook page, The Crafty Network.

In their own words:

"We are a trio of hardworking crafty ladies/mums who are looking to set up a Network of UK crafters & suppliers first by Facebook then via a website. Our aim is to build a network to promote and support other crafters/craft suppliers and event organisers. Provide and seek advice, hold competitions and generally showcase all the wonderful crafts/products/events out there.

Please pass the word, as our network grows, hopefully we can all benefit from it."

Attention has been paid to the content making it a useful and accessible resource for crafters.  I've been particularly impressed by the discussion pages which have been recently added.  One lists other facebook pages that promote the crafting community in various ways through networking.  As an enterprising crafter always on the lookout for promotional opportunities, I welcomed this addition and have already posted on several sites, showcasing Mosaic Tree to a wider audience.  All these opportunities that I've explored so far have been free which is another benefit.

To get in touch with them go to:

www.facebook.com/TheCraftyNetwork

To find the networking link  - go to The Crafty Network facebook page, click on 'discussions' (in left hand menu) and click on Networking Pages.

Please spread the word about this fantastic resource.

Knitting Help

Every crafter learns their craft from somewhere, either at a young age or, if you’re like me, learning as an adult.  I started over the Christmas period 2009 when, in a rare turn of events, I found myself with some down time.  I started with the absolute basics – a pair of mini knitting needles (designed for children!), a children’s knitting book, a very gaudy ball of wool and a lot of determination.

I then took my needles and ball of wool everywhere, asking any likely looking individual if he or she would be able to help.  Even at the hairdressers, I accosted an older lady and she showed me the art of picking up a dropped stitch – but her hands went oh-so-fast that I was grateful for her help, but still none the wiser!

Living a long way from my mum makes it tricky for me to ask her when I need help.  Dropped knitting stitches are more visual than a phone call!  So, I resorted to the internet for help with learning new skills.  The cable stitch demo video and I got on like a house on fire – it was constant stop/start/freeze frame and repeat for many hours!  YouTube is great place to hang out.

I then looked further afield for some like minded people.  This was when I came across the international online knitting community that is a one stop shop for help and all knitting-related chat.    www.knittinghelp.com – is the place and the name really does say it all.  If you’re a knitter, do drop by to say ‘hello’ on the forum – it’s a really friendly and supportive place.

Do you have an online community where you chat about your own craft?  If so, do get in touch with your craft and the website link.  It’d be great to start a list of all these treasure sites so that there’s a personally recommended resource that crafters can use.  Send me your thoughts.

Craft Design Month

What is Craft and Design Month?

Hundreds of craft events already take place successfully every year during the month of May; now Craft and Design Month can bring them all together under one banner to collectively target national and regional media. There are also lots of opportunities for people to organise something especially for Craft and Design Month.
The overall aim is to achieve wider publicity and public awareness of the fine craft and design that exists in the UK today.
This project receives no funding or grant aid. It is entirely based on the simple concept of people working together for the benefit of the whole creative community and is sponsored by craft&design magazine, who have launched this unique opportunity to celebrate and promote crafts across the UK.

Note from Mosaic Tree - Calling all crafters and customers alike, please support this.
